Oblast, USSR. The Privens first applied for exit visas in May 1981 in order to join their family in Israel. Every six months they apply, but they are always refused. Ida's father, Leonid, born in 1913, is bedridden and her mother spends most of her time caring for him. Michail will be 13 but as it is forbid- den by Soviet law for anyone under 16 to take part in a religious ceremony, he will be denied his right to be a bar mitzvah. Mark and Joshua have written to Michail and they will attempt to reach the family by phone. -1 LOCAL NEWS Machon Begins Fall Term Machon Inbrah, the Jewish Learning Network of Michigan, announces the beginning of its fall semester of JudaiCollege classes.
