B'not Mitzvah

Esther Ingber, daughter of
Paul and Roberta Ingber, and
Dana Stern, daughter of Dr.
Milton and Barbara Stern,
will celebrate their b'not
mitzvah at Sabbath services
Saturday morning at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek.
Esther and DAna had been
writing to Rena Fulmakht in
the Soviet Union, but learn-
ed of her release and subse-
quent emigration. They now
write to Anna Gorokhova,
daughter of Victor Gorokhov
and Vera Lipsits, in Baku,
Azerbaidzhan.
Anna and her family first
applied to leave the Soviet
Union in 1980. No reason has
been given for tneir refusal
and they still await permis-
sion to emigrate. Esther and
Stern will ask the congrega-
tion to send letters of con-
gratulation to Anna for her
bat mitzvah in absentia. Let-

Amy Rebecca Winer,
daughter of Lois and Alan
Winer, will celebrate her bat
mitzvah with her Soviet twin,
Sofya Gorokhov Saturday at
Congregation B'nai Moshe.
Sofya's father is a physicist
and mathematician. Her
mother is an engineer. Both
have been unable to find pro-
fessional employment since
the family first made applica-
tion for a visa in February
1981. The application was
denied by Soviet authorities
for reasons of "secrecy."
Amy has written to Sofya
on several occasions, but has
not received any confirmation
that the letters have been
received.

Bar Mitzvah

Bradley Aaron Finegood,
son of Nancy and Douglas
Finegood, will twin the obser-
vance of his bar mitzvah
celebration with Alexander
Barvak, son of Nelly and
Mark Barvak, on Saturday at
10:30 a.m., at Temple
Emanu-El.
The Barvak family has ap-
plied three times to leave
Kiev. The father, Mark Bar-
yak, was allowed to leave
alone and is residing in
Brooklyn, N.Y.
