American Jews fear for the demographic demise of the Jewish State — something that at least on paper can be projected in the not too dis- tant future for both "Greater Israel" and "Israel within the Green Line," yet this concern has spurred neither support for aliyah or "internal aliyah" (encouraging a higher Jewish Israeli birth rate). "Transfer" is not a simplistic solution. To date it is the only one which stands up to the dual requirement of not jeopardizing Israel's security on the one hand and preserving a Jewish majority on the other. Iry Wengrow President, Troy Jewish Congregation NEWS 1"'""'" Vandal Faces Adult Penalty New York (JTA) — A 15-year-old youth, one of two accused of vandalizing and burning a Brooklyn syna- gogue last month, will be tried as an adult. This means that the sus- pect, Louis Franceschi, who has been indicted by a grand jury, will stand trial in state Supreme Court, instead of Family Court, where juve- niles are normally tried. He also will face more severe punishment if convicted. Franceschi was arraigned in Supreme Court on Monday. He is charged with second- degree burglary, second- degree criminal mischief and first-degree reckless en- dangerment, all felonies, and with two. misdemeanors. Franceschi pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $10,000 bail by Justice Richard Goldberg. If found guilty of the burglary charge, Franceschi could be sentenced to between 28 months and seven years in prison.
