Exemplary qualities of leadership
are recognized each year with the
presentation of the Sylvia Simon
Greenberg Young Leadership
Award to a woman of outstanding
promise.
Devoted service to a number of
agencies, as well as to Federation
and the Campaign, has led to
Howard Tapper's selection as re-
cipient of the Frank A. Wetsman
Memorial Leadership Award.
This year, the award goes to
Lauren Liss, a member of the
Federation Women's Division
leadership team. Lauren has held
several important positions with
the Allied Jewish Campaign and
was Detroit chairman of the Young
Leadership Washington Confer-
ence. She is a participant in the
Women's Hadracha development
program and serves on the execu-
tive board of the United Jewish
Appeal Young Women's Leader-
ship Cabinet.
This award, presented to a young
man with special leadership
capabilities, recognizes Howard's
chairmanship of the Campaign
Super Sunday telethon and of the
Campaign's Mercantile Division.
He is a member of Federation's
Culture and Education budgeting
and planning division, a vice-
president of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center and board member of
both Fresh Air Society and United
Hebrew Schools.
In recognition of his outstanding
service to the Young Adult Divi-
sion, Past President Norman Beit-
ner has been named recipient of
the William H. Boesky Memorial
Leadership Award. This award
cites both current service and
potential for future community
leadership.
Norman has been a division board
member for three years and served
as chairman of the division's 1987
Allied Jewish Campaign. He is a
member of the Jewish Community
Council Executive Committee
and of the Federation Leadership
Development Committee.
