Mobilization
Exercise Set

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Israel
Defense Force announced
Tuesday that a mobilization
exercise for reserve soldiers
will be held shortly.
Advance warnings of the
call-ups are customarily
given to avoid any misreading
of Israel's intentions by
neighboring Arab states.
A military spokesman said
the exercise would involve
"several thousand reservists
and vehicles." The soldiers
will be required to report to
their mobilization centers
upon hearing the code-name
of their units broadcast on
radio.
The men and vehicles are
released after a roll call. The
IDF records the time taken to
reach the mobilization
centers, as well as the route
taken to get there.

China Begins
Judaic Center

Melbourne (JTA) — The
first Judaic Studies Center in
China has been established in
Shanghai under the presiden-
cy of Professor Zhu Weile.
The announcement was
contained in a letter to Isi
Leibler, chairman of the
World Jewish Congress Asia
Pacific branch. It came from
Jin Yinzhong, vice secretary
general of the Shanghai In-
ternational Relations Studies
Society.
According to Jin, the center
is an outgrowth of a seminar
on Jewish history and culture
held last August in Liu
Zhang, Hangzhou, Zhejiang
province.
