Aircraft Industry, the main
contractor responsible for the
design, construction and
launch the country's first
space satellite reported
--,_ recently that about $200

million has been invested in
the project since before the
.i launch of Israel's first missile,
OP` the Shavit-2, in 1962.
According to Moshe Keret,
IAI's managing director, in-
vestment in the project in-
WI- creased annually from about
$5 million a year in the
1960s, through $10 million a
year in the 1970s, to some $30
million a year over the past
five years.
Construction and launch of
the next satellite depends on
financing by potential clients
and by IAI's capacity to raise
its own capital, Keret said.
Professor Yuval Ne'eman,
chairman of Israel's space
agency, has said the next
satellite would be designed
for scientific research projects,
with the individual projects
chosen from a dozen or so pro-
posals already submitted to
the agency.
Ne'eman said it was hoped
c'n
that the Ofek project would
ultimately bring foreign cur-
rency into the country
through the sale of construc-
tion and launch facilities.

New York (JTA) — Leaders
of an Orthodox rabbinical
group recently met in New
York to call for a mass cam-
paign to "alert the public to
the dangers of Reform and
Conservatism?'
Rabbis attending the
special meeting of the Union
of Orthodox Rabbis of the
United States and Canada
drew a direct link between
non-Orthodox Jewish
denominations and an in-
creasing incidence of mar-
riage between Jews and
non-Jews.
They vowed to organize a
united front to urge all Or-
thodox organizations to ex-
plain to Jews the importance
of staying away from Reform
and Conservative Judaism,
according to Hersh Ginsberg,
director of the union, which is
more commonly known as the
Agudas Harabonim.
The meeting was prompted
by a request from the Chief
Rabbinate of Isral, according
to Ginsberg.
