Concerned About
Anti-Jewish Cabals
It is with shock and dismay
that I read of the number of
anti-Jewish persons con-
nected with the national
Republican campaign.
First, there is the highly
disturbing fact that Fred
Malek, a high official in the
Bush campaign, collected a
list of Jews to be purged from
the Labor Department. Then
there is the even more
troublesome news that six
others, leaders of the
Republican ethnic coalition,
were forced to resign after be-
ing identified as connected to
anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi
groups.
All this news makes me
wonder how many more such
people surrounding Bush will
surface in the future (or, even
worse, never surface at all).
Many people have question-
ed the judgment of the Bush
campaign based on the selec-
tion of Dan Quayle. I, for one,
am more concerned with the
people around Bush who are
involved in anti-Jewish
cabals.

Bush Shows
Little Sensitivity
An emigre network of Nazi
sympathizers and collabo-
rators is the core of the
Republican National Com-
mittee's ethnic unit. In many
cases these fascists are
unrepentant about their past
as enemies of the U.S. and as
supporters of Nazi genocide
according to the Political
Research Associates.
The National Republican
Heritage Groups Council has
been serving GOP presiden-
tial candidates since 1952.
Many leaders and members of
this council were welcomed by
the Republicans because of
their anti-communism and in
utter disregard of their
Nazism.
In addition, Frederic V.
Malek, designated by Vice
President Bush as vice chair
of the Republican National
Committee, resigned that
post after it was revealed that
he conducted a "head count"
of Jews in the Bureau of
Labor Statistics in the Nixon
administration. At least two
Jews were demoted. Malek
claims no knowledge of why

the list was developed,
although President Nixon
was, at the time, expressing
concern about a "Jewish
cabal" at the bureau .. .
We don't know whether
George Bush would himself
follow orders and make up
such a list but we do know
that he is defending his good
friend and close adviser. Bush
calls Malek "a most honor-
able man" and sees nothing
wrong with the list gathering.
We can expect Malek to be a
key figure in a Bush
administration.
It is clear that Mr. Bush has
little sensitivity on matters of
life and death to Jews and
others who believe in fair
play.

Bush Is Committed
To Jews And Israel
The Republican Party and
Vice President George Bush
have a firm commitment for
a secure Israel and the
freedom of Jews around the
world. In 1985, Vice Presi-
dent Bush played a crucial
and pivotal role in an airlift
which secured freedom for a
large number of Ethiopian
Jews dying of starvation and
disease.
Bush interceded with the
Sudanese president to ar-
range a rescue mission of
Ethiopian Jews. This rescue
mission, called - Operation
Sheba, was an American mis-
sion; Israel provided no
money or personnel. It was
Bush who persuaded Presi-
dent Reagan to allow the
operation. To provide for the
mission, $5 million were
drawn from the President's
Emergency Refugee Fund.
The Jewish community
should be aware of what is oc-
curring in the Democratic
Party. Eight state Democratic
conventions have a platform
supporting a Palestinian
state and take a pro-PLO
position.
At the end of the national
Democratic convention, Jesse
Jackson told his supporters
he had been promised "access
to where policies are made
and priorities are set." In ex-
change for Jackson's support,
Dukakis has allowed Jackson
supporters to take major posts
in Dukakis' executive
committee.
I am concerned that
Dukakis has apparently
guaranteed Jackson a role in
any future Dukakis transi-
tion team. It is this team that
helps the president-elect
choose key advisors and
cabinet members. Will
Jackson, friend of Arafat,
