Ignaz Bubis, chairman of the
Jewish Community Council
of Frankfurt.
Bubis, commenting on the
invitation to Kohl to address
ceremonies in Frankfurt in
November marking the 50th
anniversary of the Kristall-
nacht, suggested that the
chancellor have Richard von
Weizsacker, president of the
Federal Republic, write his
speech.
Von Weizsacker is highly
regarded by West Germany's
Jews for his sensitivity to
Jewish concerns. Kohl is con-
sidered to have been insen-
sitive on some occasions.

Dig Unearths
Ancient Factory

Tel Aviv (JTA) — An unusu-
ally large and remarkably
well-preserved olive oil "fac-
tory," dating back to the
seventh century Byzantine
period, was uncovered during
garden planting work at a
new building in Kiryat Ata,
near Haifa.
The remains uncovered
reveal that the factory, con-
sisting of four separate
presses, each with its own
storage basins, had been
destroyed by fire.
Archeologist Dr. Yosef
Porath, who dug the quarter-
acre site when summoned by
landscape gardeners laying
out gardens around a new
block of apartment houses,
said the destruction of the fac-
tory apparently took place
either during the Persian con-
quest in 614, or the later
Arab conquest in 636-638
