Kim Gurecki controls the ball against Walled Lake Western.
more vocal because she runs
the team. She's getting better
at it!'
Gurecki says she is a more
confident person on the
basketball court. "I'm pretty
quiet, but on the court I am
more out-going." But she feels
her basketball personality is
bringing out her off-court per-
sonality. For example, "In
school, I'll talk more and
answer questions" in class.
"She's more aggressive,
more assertive on the court,"
agrees Capling, adding,
"basketball, I think, has been
the best thing for her. I guess
in the past she's lacked a lit-
tle bit in self-confidence. But
she's coming out of that!"
Both players may play col-
legiate sports. Capling says
Gurecki "could play college
(basketball) somewhere. I
don't know where, maybe
Division II. If she was taller
she could play Division I. But
they're looking for big
guards!' Gurecki will make
no plans during the season,
but the idea of playing in col-
lege appeals to her. "I pro-
bably will want to. All this
hard work for nothing doesn't
make much sense!'
Weintraub's collegiate
future will definitely involve
intramural sports, but she
would like to play varisty
volleyball. "I'm kinda small
but I'm hoping that I can play
volleyball!'
Both players, and Capling,
are optimistic about the rest
of the basketball season.
"We're doing well" says
Weintraub. "I think the
whole • team's working well
together . . . The teamwork's
much better than it's been
before, when I played on the
team. And the team attitude
— everyone's getting along
really well!'
Capling feels the team can
contend for the Western
Lakes Activities Association
title. "The first goal's to win
the league. That's a possibili-
ty. But Plymouth Salem's
awful tough. We play in an
awful tough league!'
A league championship is a
big goal for a small team, but
then again, it's a team where
the smallest players are mak-
ing big contributions. ❑
