NEWBORN TIPS

Most authors write a novel
and then sell the
screenplay. Former
Detroiter MICHAEL
KRAUSS did just the
opposite. Krauss, a
television producer for over
20 years, made a video
with his wife JOAN
LUNDEN, "Your Newborn
Baby, Everything You Need
to Know," and then decided
to write the book. Your
Newborn Baby, published
by Warner
Communications, has many
newborn tips. By the way,
he doesn't say whether his
mom JOLIE KRAUSS and
sister LEAH FOLTYN
offered tips.

FASHION GROUP

The fall fashion spectacular
sponsored by The Fashion
Group and Detroit Monthly
magazine was indeed
spectacular with fashions
from nearly 20 stores.
Commentator ROBIN
ABCARIAN of the Detroit
Free Press was applauded
when she said she was
tired of over-priced clothes.

Abcarian skirted the issue
of hem lengths and wore
navy crepe pants.
Highlights included special
appearances by designer
BENARD HOLTZMAN of
Harve Benard on behalf of
Saks and DON KLINE
brought by Roz & Sherm.
Highlights in the crowd
included: ADELA
WEISMAN, AUDREY
ELDEHEIT, BARBARA
ROSETT, LYNN
FRIEDMAN, SANDY
MILLER and LINDA
GOLD.

PALACE SUITES

The main attractions at the
Palace like STING,
GEORGE MICHAEL, NEIL
YOUNG, and ANDRE
AGASSI can't be missed,
but some of the details are
subtle. Suite owners have
their own entrance and
parking lot. They can order
carry-out food from Machus
restaurant and furnish
their box in any personal
decor. One private suite
even has a mezzuzah. And
that suite belongs to the
owners — DAVID
HERMELIN, BILL
DAVIDSON and ROBERT
SOSNICK.

I NEWS I

Israel, USSR To Discuss
Chamber Of Commerce

(JTA) — Sources say the
bilateral chambers of com-
merce will be a subject of
discussion when Israeli
Foreign Minister Shimon
Peres meets with his Soviet
counterpart Eduard Sche-
vardnadze during the United
Nations General Assembly in
New York, which begins Sept.
20.
Earlier this summer during
a visit to Leningrad, Daniel
Gillerman, president of the
Israel Federation of Cham-
bers of Commerce, broached
the subject of the establish-
ment of mutual chambers of
commerce in Leningrad and
Tel Aviv with Soviet
authorities. At about the
same time, the Soviets an-
nounced they would be ex-
porting television programs
to Israel.
Head of the Israeli consular
mission to Moscow, Meron
Gordon, said the recent

Israeli delegation to the
Soviet Union was warmly
received by Moscow Jews and
had developed cordial ties
with intellectual and media
circles there.
The group has not, as yet,
been encouraged by the
Kremlin to seek substantive
political dialogue with
Moscow policymakers.

Students Differ
Toward Arabs

Aviv (JTA) — According
to a poll of high school
students carried out by Aeli
Institute for Military Studies,
74 percent of students in voca-
tional and religious high
schools hate Arabs, compared
to 13 percent of kibbutz high
school students.
Other findings of the survey
indicate that 90 percent to 95
percent would join the Israel
Defense Force.
