FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1988

The Central East Region of
the National Conference of
Synagogue Youth is adopting
the Keiss-Kuna family of Len-
ingrad, USSR.
Elena, George, and Andrei
Keiss-Kuna applied for
repatriation to Israel 14 years
ago. They have been denied
exit visas repeatedly based on
the Soviet contention that
Mrs. Keiss-Kuna has
knowledge of "state secrets".
At present, she has an ill
mother and a sister in Israel.
Son Andrei is facing being
drafted into the Soviet army.
The Central East Region of
NCSY, which encompasses
Michigan, Ohio, Penn-
sylvania, Kentucky and In-
diana, has initiated a letter-
writing campaign to both
American and Soviet officials
and to the Keiss-Kuna fami-
ly. Under the direction of Vice
President of Programming,
Brent Levison, and Regional
Director, Rabbi Mark Cohn,
more than 100 NCSY'ers are
writing a minimum of two let-
ters a week.
Anyone interested in par-
ticipating in this project,
should contact the NCSY
regional office, 967-3300.
