I FROM THE RABBIS I
Insularity

will happen in Nineveh. In
the meantime God creates a
miracle and a leafy protective
gourd grows instantaneously,
bestowing upon him im-
'-) mediate shade and bringing
him the only joy expressed in
the Book of Jonah. But with
dawn's approach, God ap-
points a worm to destroy the
miraculous gourd, and when
later a deathly east wind
— comes bearing down on the
exposed Jonah, the prophet
seeks relief; even death would
r be better. God then addressed
Jonah, "Are you so greatly
vexed on account of the plant
. . . which you did not rear,
which came up in a night and
perished in a night; and
should I not be concerned for
Nineveh . . . one hundred and
twenty thousand persons and
much cattle." (Jonah 4:10-11)

Our God is Master of the
Universe, and everything in
it, not just Israel. When
Abraham learned that God
was about to destroy Sodom
and Gomorrah, he began to
plead for the inhabitants. God
expects no less from Jonah.
He wants him to become a
r ' universal voice, a man for all
the nations of the earth. God

cares for the Assyrians as
much as He cares for the
,
I Jews. And the significance of
reading the Book of Jonah
toward the end of Yom Kippur
is to remind us that even if
_s our own house — thanks to
the blessings of Yom Kippur,
is in order — it's not right for
(' us to forget about the rest of
the planet and enclose
ourselves in protective
wombs. True, it may have
been necessary to look inward
C
- for a 25-hour period, but it
was a looking in to permit a
:1) more sensitive looking out.
Therefore, we immediately
leave the insularity of the
Jewish Yom Kippur and self-
contained synagogues, and
exit into the world of Sukkot
and the open sky revealed to
us from our temporary
booths. Not only are we com-
manded to bless the palm
fronds and bring them into
our synagogues, but if we add
up the total number of
sacrifices offered in the days
of the Temple during the
festival of Sukkot, it amounts
to 70, signifying all the na-
tions. On Sukkot we pray not
only for ourselves; we pray for
the entire globe.
On Shavuot the Torah was
given to us on Mount Sinai.
On Simchat Torah, the day of
rejoicing of the Law, we cry
and dance with joy over this
gift from God, and we under-
stand that it must be shared
with everyone, even the peo-
ple of Nineveh, the capital of
Assyria.

Try More Than 'Relief'
For Your Next Headache
BY DR. STANLEY LEVINE, D.C.
Doctor of Chiropractic
Of all the so-called triumphs of the pharmaceutical in-
dustry, the `heachache remedy is the most dangerous to life
and health.
I don't want to convey the image that headache pills are
poison and are in themselves dangerous to life.
However, the less toxic and the more apparently effec-
tive remedy is dangerous because it suppresses a symptom,
while the trouble caused by the symptom
may continue to progress.
Pain, particularly headache pain, is the
alarm bell which nature employs to signal
`FIRE.' Ringing the 'fire' alarm never put out
the fire.
There are headaches that seem to have
a simple cause. The `morning-after' type,
for instance. And it usually passes as soon
as its cause — a clogged digestive tract —
has been cleared.
DR. LEVINE
Other headaches, particularly _ the
chronic or recurring type, will send the careful, intelligent
person straight to the Doctor.
The causes of headaches are many. They include
digestive, eliminative, kidney and heart troubles, eye-strain,
infected tonsils, nerve pressure from spinal condition, and
sometimes brain trouble itself.
However, in no condition will a headache be eliminated
until the cause has been determined and corrected.
Whatever the cause, the headache symptom should be
accepted as a natural bodily warning to seek proper diagnosis
and treatment of the problem.
Many individuals seek Chiropractic care both for relief
of the headache symptom and for the correction of the
underlying cause.
