As for Yesh G'vul, "It is the
right in a democracy for
anybody to sit in jail if he

Zucker said he urges
Israelis who oppose the oc-
cupdtion to serve in the ter-
ritories to counterbalance
those who are prone to
brutality. Such Israelis "have
struggled for human rights
more than anyone who went
to jail."
Zucker's Citizens Rights
Movement has been in the
parliamentary opposition
since the Labor and Likud
parties formed the National
Unity Government in 1984.
With five seats in the current
Knesset, Zucker expects his
party to win between five and
eight seats in the November
elections. Most of the addi-
tional votes will come at the
expense of Labor, with whom
the CRM traditionally has
been allied.
Israeli Judge
Joins Demjanjuk
Defense Team
Jerusalem (JTA) — Dov
Eitan, a controversial former
district court judge, has joined
the defense team of convicted
Nazi war criminal John "Ivan
the Terrible" Demjanjuk.
Eitan, who was invited to
joined the defense team by
Demjanjuk's lawyer Yoram
Sheftel, will presumably par-
ticipate in the appeal against
Demjanjuk's death sentence.
The appeal will be heard by
the Supreme Court in
December.
Demjanjuk was convicted of
war crimes by a Jerusalem
district court in April 1987
after a year-long trial. He was
identified as the Treblinka
death camp guard known as
"Ivan the Terrible" who
operated the gas chambers
where some 800,000 Jews
perished.
Judge Eitan resigned from
the district court in 1983
after running afoul of the
authorities over of his public
advocacy of Israel's with-
drawal from captured
territories.
Eitan had signed petitions
— circulated by the Yesh Gvul
movement — urging the pull-
out of the Israel Defense Force
from Lebanon.
