New York (jTA) — Anne Henderson-Pollard is to be transferred from the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, Minn., to a minimum securi- ty women's prison in Dan- bury, Conn., according to her lawyer, Nathan Dershowitz. But while her father, Ber- nard Henderson, said the change would be a "tremen- - dons improvement," he repeated a call for a nation- wide campaign among Jewish and interfaith organizations to demand her parole. Jonathan Pollard, the one- time civilian intelligence analyst for the U.S. Navy, was convicted of selling classified information to Israel. He has been sentenced to life im- prisonment with no chance of parole. Public concern for Anne Henderson-Pollard's in- carceration has focused on her medical condition. She reportedly suffers from biliary dyskinesia, a rare digestive ailment which causes her difficulty when digesting food, but she has been denied proper medical treatment, according to fami- ly spokespersons and at- torneys for the Pollards. Dershowitz said he had received a letter from J. Michael Quinlan, director of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, saying that Henderson- Pollard is to be transferred to the Danbury camp, a facility that is 'level one or lowest level, security. The facility is much closer to her family, who live in Secaucus, N.J. "I think it's a very ap- propriate facility," Dershowitz said, adding that he understands physicians will be available to Henderson- Pollard, and that the facility has arrangements for expert consultations with the Yale Medical Center, where Carol Pollard, Jonathan's sister, works. John Pendleton, public af- fairs officer at the Bureau of Prisons, said that "the deci- sion has not been finalized at this point, although that is under consideration:' Pendleton said the bureau is awaiting a medical evalua- tion to be certain that place- ment in Danbury is ap- propriate and that Henderson-Pollard's medical needs can be taken care of there. Dershowitz credited both public pressure and the in- tervention of Quinlin for the change in policy toward Henderson-Pollard. Although the media is still not allowed to see the Pollards, Dershowitz believes this policy will have to change once Henderson-Pollard is moved to the Danbury facility. Meanwhile, Henderson- Pollard "looks terrible," has visible skin rashes over her face and hands, and her eyes are infected, according to Rabbi Avraham Weiss of the Hebrew Institute of River- dale, who had a six-hour visit with Henderson-Pollard last week at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester. Groups around the country that are active on behalf of the Pollards are sending out a petition that Anne Henderson-Pollard be parol- ed, for which she was eligible as of August, and that she receive proper medical care, according to Bernard Henderson. Weiss' visit to Henderson- Pollard followed one to Jonathan Pollard about a month ago at the U.S. Penitentiary in Marion, Ill. The Illionis prison is the highest maximum security prison in the country. Most of the prisoners are those who have caused trouble in other prisons and who are con- sidered extremely dangerous within the prison system, Weiss said. After his meeting with Pollard, said Weiss, he was called into the office of the associate warden, W.S. Scott, who spoke to him "in the most disrespectful, bordering on anti-Semitic, tones." Although Weiss' meeting with Pollard took place in a private room, Scott said that the prison had eavesdroped on the entire conversation. Alan Dershowitz, Jonathan Pollard's lawyer, supported Weiss's account, saying that prison authorities had told him the rabbi's conversation with Pollard had been monitored.
