of two — daughter Karen, 20,
will be a junior at Boston
University this fall, majoring
in English literature. Son
Tbny, 18, will be a freshman
at the University of Oregon.
He is interested in business.
What do they think of their
father's avocation?
"I think they dig it . . . I
think that the kids are proud
of the fact that I do it," says
Shapiro. "Both the kids are
music fans. My daughter one
time said to me that she
thought she was a reincar-
nated '50s child. She loves the
early stuff, particularly the
Motown sounds of the
Supremes are her favorite .. .
"My son, his tastes and in-
terests are every bit as-involv-
ed as mine. I think if he had
the income that I have, he'd
have the same number of CDs
that I do. He's really commit-
ted to it.'
Even at 51, Shapiro re-
mains committed to the
music generally associated
with youth. "I think the effect
is pretty much the same. I
may be 51, numerically, but
in my soul I still think of
myself as being pretty
youthful. I still go to concerts,
I still go out to clubs and hear
new music and dance. And it
makes me happy. It brings me
joy. It turns me on."
