the chairmanship of the
Holocaust Memorial Center's
fourth anniversary dinner to
be held Nov. 6 at the Westin
Hotel.
The Righteousness Award
will be presented to Mrs.
Heiltje Kooistra Bos of
Holland. Mrs. Kooistra's hus-
band was a member of the
underground there and wish-
ed to open his home to Jews.
It was a joint decision of both
husband and wife and
although Mr. and Mrs.
Kooistra harbored eight peo-
ple for a period of three years,
their four children were never
aware of the situation.
Two of the eight are still
living and are in Israel. Mrs.
Kooistra's daughter, Anneke
Burke, and her husband and
family, live in Mayville, Mich.
Fred W. Friendly, television
news pioneer, journalist and
concentration camp liberator,
will be the guest speaker at
the dinner. Prof. Friendly is
currently the Edward R. Mor-
row Professor Emeritus, Col-
umbia Graduate School of
Journalism, and lecturer, Col-
umbia. Law School and
College.

Paris (JTA) — The right-
wing National Front of Jean-
Marie Le Pen was seriously
weakened last week when
two prominent members an-
nounced their resignations in
protest of Le Pen's "racist
statements and autocratic
methods."
Francois Bachelot, a physi-
cian, and Pascal Arrighi,
former dean of the Marseille
Law School, who had been
trying to use conventional
methods to promote their
ideas, quit when Le Pen refer-
red to political opponent
Michel Durafour as Durafour-

His remark came in the
context of an overall insult to
Durafour, recently named
minister of public service in
the Socialist government of
President Francois Mitterrand.
Last September, Le Pen
angered Jews and others with
his comment that the gas

Political observers credit
the personal prestige of
Bachelot and Arrighi for a
large share of Le Pen's success
during the spring presiden-
tial elections.
Last week the two men
were censured by the front's
political committee for hav-
ing rapped Le Pen's latest
declaration, in which he
made the coarse pun.
- Le Pen himself urged the
committee to "tolerate no
rebellion within our ranks!'
In the meantime, the right-
wing leader may have suf-
fered another blow: an
underground Jewish organi-
zation assumed responsibility
Wednesday for a burglary car-
ried out in Le Pen's Paris
office.
The Jewish Defense Organ-
ization, which has already
struck at extremist right-
wing and racist movements,
said it had carried out the
burglary and was in posses-
sion of important confidential
files, which it said will be
released in due time.
