Is Your Child Playing
With Spinal Damage?

BY DR. STANLEY LEVINE, D.C.
Doctor of Chiropractic

"In a single day, an active child endures an amount of
stress that would land most middle-aged adults in the
hospital," warns Dr. Stanley Levine, D.C. of Levine Clinic of
Chiropractic.
Toddlers and preschool children are subjected to many
falls and accidents. Those everyday mishaps can be silent
forerunners of future serious structural spinal disorders.
"The spine is a beautifully engineered structure,"
explains Dr. Levine. "It supports the head
and protects the nerve trunks which carry
messages to every part of the body. In spite
of its importance, damage to the spine is
often ignored. If fractured, the spine can
react with partial or complete paralysis, or
even death."
If the spine is diseased, as commonly
occurs following an injury, it can
deteriorate and lose its flexibility, causing
major problems with the central nervous
system. All too often the victim of such an
DR. LEVINE
injury is unaware of it or has forgotten about it until warn-
ing signs appear.
According to Dr. Levine, such warning signs usually ap-
pear as tightness or soreness of the muscles, headaches, or
back pain.
"The major cause of structural spinal disorders is just
plain negilgence of strains and sprains," says Dr.. Levine. "Pro-
per diet, exercise, good posture, and enough sleep are im-
portant."
"But a spinal check-up for your child now is the best
safeguard against future disability. As a twig is bent, so grows
the child. Early correction of a childhood injury can have
a far-reaching effect on your child's health, even into
adulthood."
