Rabbi Yaakov Weinberg,
rosh yeshivah of Ner Israel
Rabbinical College in
Baltimore, will be the guest
speaker for the annual
Assembly of Repentance at 8
p.m. Monday at Congregation
Dovid Ben Nuchim.
Rabbi Weinberg has been a
rosh yeshivah at the Ner
Israel Rabbinical Colige for
more than 40 years. Born in
Israel, Rabbi Weinberg at-
tended Misifta Rabbeinu
Chaim Berlin and Yeshiva
Ibrah Vadaath in Brooklyn.
More than 30 former
students of Ner Israel Rab-
binical College live in the
Metropolitan Detroit area,
many of whom hold positions

Temple Israel Plans
To Honor Sonia Synle

Sonia Syme will be honored
at Sabbath services and at an
Oneg Shabbat on Sept. 30 at
'Ibmple Israel. Her sons, Rab-
bi Daniel Syme and David
Syme, will pay tribute to their
mother on the occasion of her
birthday.
Mrs. Syme received a
Bachelor of Science degree
from the University of
Manitoba. She worked as a
laboratory technician at Mt.
Sinai Hospital in New York
and as a chemist at Merck
and Co. in Rahway, N.J.
She is a talmudic scholar
especially as it relates to
Responsa literature. She
teaches classes for the Col-
lege of Jewish Studies, among
them Responsa Rabbinic
Answers to Modern Problems
stressing especially Jewish
medical ethics. Mrs. Syme is
vice chairman of the board of
directors of Botsford General
Hospital.
At Wayne State University
she obtained a teaching cer-
tificate. In addition she has
taken post-graduate courses
at the University of Detroit
and at Michigan State
University in the area of
human relations. She is an in-
structor in the Thmple Israel
Religious School.

Sisterhood's department of
religion and ed ation, a post
she has held fo the past 30
