Larry said he did meet one
person through Jewish Talk,
but Barry said that he never
did and never plans to do so.
Two other callers, Andy, 32,
and Jonathan, 23, said that
neither of them have met
with someone from he line,
but they consider doing so.
Jonathan did have one com-
plaint about Jewish Talk —
he has never gotten a female
caller on the line. Gigi agreed
that hardly any women call
the line, which is why all of
the monitors are women.
A monitor is always on the
line to act as a kind of referee
for the callers. It is her job to
keep up the conversatin and
keep the callers in line.
Monitors are allowed only a
ten-minute break each shift,
andif they are caught off for
more than ten minutes, they
are immediately replaced.
According t Susan, another
monitor who does the 6 p.m.
to midnight shift, a caller will
sometimes get abusive, so she
will ignore him — she said so
far they have all been men —
or keep the conversation
steered away from him until
he gets bored and hangs up.
Monitors cannot cut callers
off the line.
And Jewish Talk is only the
first step in Shimony's project
as Jewish matchmaker. He
plans to co-sponsor singles
parties in the future so that
he can publicize the line,
