The Na- tional Council of the Justicialist (Peronist) Party publicly denounced the group's "anti-democratic and totalitarian preaching which exalts racism and anti- Semitism" and it initiated legal proceedings to prevent the group from using the traditional symbols of Peronism. The Alfonsin administra- tion has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen democratic forces and curb anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination. The most promising is an anti- discrimination law which would penalize discriminatory acts and behavior based on ideology, race, religion or gender. A recently completed study, conducted by Professor Maria Teresa Farres of the Univer- sity of Buenos Aires, in- dicates that, even with an anti-discrimination law on the books, eliminating anti- Semitism in Argentina will be a very difficult task, because it is widespread and deeply rooted. The study found that 29 percent of Argentines in Buenos Aires have discriminatory attitudes toward Jews. Two key questions in the study focused on preferences for neighbors and marriage partners. The list of preferences included 14 groups: Jews ranked 14th in desirability as neighbors and 13th as marriage partners. N EWS Poles Honor Israeli Prof Jerusalem — An eye specialist at the Hadassah- Hebrew University Medical Center at Ein Karem has been honored by the Gdansk Academy of Medicine for his efforts to promote greater cooperation between the Polish and Israeli institutions. Dr. David BenEzra, a specialist in pediatric eye care, was a guest at the academy's 40th anniversary conference and the only foreigner to be invited to the event. Dr. BenEzra helped Dr. Leopold Glasner, a native of Gdansk, to become the first Polish physician to be granted permission by his government to visit Israel for advanced studies. Dr. Glasner, who is Jewish and is also a pediatric
