Maple 855-2200 1988 • 5749 To All Our Friends, Customers & Relatives A Happy, Healthy & Prosperous NEW YEAR from The Milen Family "more than just a car wash" Wrestler Continued from preceding page wasn't the best thing to eat after dieting down from my normal weight of 160 pounds." Seras won an Eastern Greco-Roman title as a high school sophomore. As a senior he competed in the Junior World Championships in Nebraska, but sprained an ankle before the meet and wound up fourth. His mother, Sheila Seras, says her son could have earn- ed a partial scholarship to Purdue University, but chose to stay nearby and go to Albany State University because of his admiration for Coach Joe DeMeo. Seras was a four-time NCAA Division HI All-America. After gradua- tion he lost his Olympic berth to long-time rival Jim Mar- tinez, who won the Bronze Medal in Los Angeles. "I- work out three times each day," Seras says. "In the morning it's running, aerobics or basketball; in the afternoon, wrestling drills; in the evening, regular hard wrestling. The proof of Coach DeMeo is that in the final Olympic trials, our club had finalists in five of the ten weight classes." In Greco-Roman style wrestling, the wrestler cannot use his legs offensively or defensively, only for support. "It's one step up from college wrestling' Seras says. "It's more violent than freestyle wrestling, more of an all-out fight . . . but with strategy. "You have to be 'wilder' in Greco-Roman than college wrestling?' Just back from training with the Russian Olympic wrestlers in Leningrad, Seras also competed in Romania. No matter what happens in- Seoul, he's not ready to retire after finally making it to the Olympics: "I'm taking it one year at a time. My weight hasn't changed in the last seven years, and now it gets easier to lose the 11 pounds for a tournament. My religion has taught me discipline. I know I can't let myself get more than five pounds above 149.5 near the time of a tourna- ment, or I won't feel as well after I take it off. "After the Olympics — I'll be wrestling Sept. 20-22 — I'll be aiming for the World Cup wrestling, about two weeks later. After that I'll be taking it one year at a time, but I'm sure not ready to retire yet."
