achievements and work on
behalf of Bonds, Wagner and
Wolfe received the first Sam
Rich New Leadership Award,
created in memory of the late
local Israel Bonds leader by
his family. The award was
presented to the co-chairmen
by D. Dan Kahn, chairman of
the board of Metro Detroit
Israel Bonds, who encouraged
the audience to participate in
activities on behalf of Bonds.
Meanwhile, Hermelin, in
his remarks to the gathering
of nearly 250 talked about
Israel's significance to con-
temporary Jewry. "The 50th
anniversary of Kristallnacht
will be celebrated in
November. Israel is 40 years
old. What if Israel was
celebrating 50 years (of
statehood)? Can you imagine
how many Jews there would
be?"
Hermelin said Israel will
continue to survive, despite

tough times, as long as it is
regarded on a "business-like
basis." He appealed to the au-
dience to invest in Israel.
"Israel is a place for you to
put your money, to be a part-
ner. We should be investing
all we can."
At the party, co-chaired by
Lauren Bruss and Heidi
Press, the new co-chairmen
for the division, succeeding
Wagner and Wolfe, were an-
nounced. They are Brian
Schubot and Richard
Partrich.
Douglas A. Schubot,
metro Detroit general chair-
man for Israel Bonds, said he
was delighted by the New
Leadership Division's suc-
cessful Bonds sales ventures,
such as this year's Bonds Go
Classic party, last year's
Bonds Go Broadway social,
parlor meetings and educa-
tional meetings. "New
Leadership is really where
it's at in this organization. We
won't have to worry who's go-
ing to carry on." ❑
