of blacks."
Foxman quoted Farrakhan
as having said that Jews "run
the institutions quietly
behind the scenes . . . pull the
strings where education is
concerned . . . taught us to
hate ourselves."
Among other examples
cited in the report was a Far-
rakhan speech in April at the
University of Pennsylvania in
which he told students that
"a deal was struck with
Hitler in the Third Reich that
Jews would be brought out of
Germany and settled in
Palestine."
The ADL report notes a
series of anti-Semitic lectures
delivered by Farrakhan
follower Steve Cokely, former
aide to Chicago Mayor
Eugene Sawyer, tapes of
which were sold at a Nation
of Islam bookstore. In his
speeches Cokely charged
Jews with engaging in an in-
ternational conspiracy to take
over the world and suggested
that Jewish doctors have
deliberately injected black
children with the AIDS virus.
The report also cites
negative references to Jews
and Israel in the Nation of
Islam's official publication,
The Final Call.
The ADL points to an arti-
cle in the Sept. 16, 1987, issue
which said, "The Government
of the United States, and
especially those Jews in posi-
tions of power, are frightened
over the growing acceptance
by masses of black people of
the message of Louis Far-
rakhan."
In another article in The
Final Call, Farrakhan said,
"The reason Jesus is so hated
in the scriptures by the Jews
is because in Jesus they see
the demise of their power and
sway over their own cauca-
sian brethren and over all the •
darker people of the earth."
