Leah Marks On Her Toes
With 3 Fashion Shows

/_-

BIRMINGHAM
433-3000
254 W. Maple
Wabeek Bldg.

an't keep a gal like
Leah Marks down .. .
regardless of- trials
and tribulations she has gone
through .. . plus moving with
son Harley.
Leah has three fashion pro-
ductions on tap already .. .
First biggie is Lee Iacocca's
St. Hugo Church benefit
where 1,000 women will gang
together for 12 noon lunch
and 1 p.m. show . . . It's
Wednesday at Thomas'
Crystal Gardens on
Groesbeck . .. with modeling
by Bricker-Tunis Furs, John
Darakjian Jewelry, cocktails,
Valentina and D.O.C. plus ser-
vices of Tamara Friedman
and Mariothax.
Nov. 2 is the annual City of
Hope Helen Rosenberg
Cancer Fighters Glamorama
shindig with gals galore pack-
ing into Adat Shalom
Synagogue for a Jeffrey
Rosenberg luncheon with big
help of mom Sarah and dad
Al.
Then is the fine Nov. 15
shindig for Kaplan Hospital
AIDS in Israel research and
Weizmann Institute . . .
Michigan Opera Company is
lending Leah the beautiful
set from its great production,
Pirates of Penzance . . . The
show's stars may also be on
hand for the evening.
CONGRATS . . . to Teresa
and Chuck Brooks . . . on
their second anniversary .. .
Teresa had come to Detroit
from Scotland for a "date" in
answer to a large display ad
placed by Chuck in The
Jewish News ... Was in April
of '86 . . . and they were mar-
ried Sept. 7.
JACK ZIDE has to realize
that he is 80 years old . . . and
that his bones and muscles
don't function like they used
to . . . Playing volleyball with
his three-year-old grandson is
okay, but not taking it easy
kinda hurts . . . this time to
the tune of a factured hip.
CONGRATS . . . to Marcy
Lederer . . . on her 40th birth-
day . . . Surprise party was
with hubby Gerald taking 12
close friends to Atlantic CIty
for the day . . . with airport
bringing her the delightful
shock of seeing everyone.
WHEN TAKING clothes to
cleaners, be sure to look at
slip received back . . . making
sure the clerks have written
everything brought in . . . Too
many are quite derelict at
this . . . with the result that
you'll probably never again

see the garment or whatever
again.
CONGRATS . . . to Adrian
and Marcus Williams . . . on
their anniversary . .. Nine
years for this fine young cou-
ple who forgot all about the
date.
THREE SISTERS will
have wonderful memories .. .
19-year-old Stacy Kahn is at
the Maayan Tsvi Kibbutz out-
side of Carmel between Haifa
and Tel Aviv . . . 18-year-old
Amy Kahn was recommended
by Rabbi M. Robert Syme,
and is spending a year with
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion's Project Otzma . . .
13-year old Jenny Kahn
brought home a bronze medal
. . . after her Detroit
volleyball team placed third
in the Chicago Maccabi
games.
LOOKING BACK On Col-
umns Of Yesteryears .. .
JUNE 30, 1956 . . . Local
fence boss whose dog kennel
business invites and usually
gets all kinds of stories re-
garding canines, tells one
that always gets a laugh .. .
about the Chinese gent being
worried by a vicious-looking
dog . . . "Don't be afraid of
him," the owner said. "You
know the old proverb, 'A bark-
ing dog never bites.' " . . .
"Yes," repeated the Chinese
fellow. "You know ploverb. Me
know ploverb. But do dog
know ploverb?"
JUNE 30, 1956 . . . "When
Herb Wise goes duckhunting,
he needs none of the
highfalutin' paraphernalia
which hunters like to get .. .
just his trusty old double-
barreled fowling piece . . .
One time he took his nephew,
Barry Silverman, along . . . A
solitary duck flew over the
blind .. . 'Down you go,'
chuckled Herb, and fired .. .
The duck flew serenely on .. .
Herb scratched his head .. .
`Son,' he declared to nephew
Barry. 'You are witnessing a
miracle. There flies a dead
duck!' "
