The new museum will be located in the 200,000-square-foot Main Building — the most histori- cally significant structure on Ellis Island. Many of the rooms are be- ing restored and others are being renovated to meet the needs of the museum. Half of the museum's space will be devoted to telling the story of Ellis Island, and the remain- ing areas will include displays that portray the immigrant experience. The Great Hall, with its soaring barrel-vault ceiling and clerestory win- dows, will be restored to its 1918 to 1924 condition and will be exhibit-free. Possibly the most personal- ly gratifying display at the Ellis Island Museum will be The American Immigrant Wall of Honor. Located off the Great Hall and adjacent NENIII to the historic Registry Room will be a unique area devoted to an exhibit of names of all national origins. It will be a collective display, represent- ing the individual family heritages that created the history of America. With a contribution of $100 or more to fund the Museum and its exhibitry, donors can place a name of their choice on The. American Immigrant Wall of Honor. News W ashington (JTA) — While both vice- presidential can- didates are considered strong on Israel, neither of them was at the forefront in fighting for pro-Israel measures on and off the floor of the Senate, an analysis of their voting records shows. Pro-Israel activists credit Senator Dan Quayle (R.-Ind.) with playing a key role on the Senate Armed Services Corn- mittee in helping gain fun- ding for joint U.S.-Israeli research on strategic defense, commonly known as "Star Wars." They said Quayle helped set the cost-sharing formula for research on the Arrow anti- tactical ballistic missile, whereby the United States pays 80 percent and Israel 20 percent of the cost. Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D- Mx.) gets the credit, the Israeli activists said, for his role in implementing the 1985 U.S.-Israel Free Trade
