Nivy was graduated from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem with a Master of Arts degree in Hebrew literature and Jewish history, and agrarian economics. Both Nivys served Israel during the War of In- dependence. He was ad- ministrative director of the Israeli army's liaison office with the International Red Cross.
