Art Contest
In Southfield

An art contest for South-
field residents ages 5-12 who
attend Southfield schools is
being sponsored by the city of
Southfield. Theme of the com-
petition is "What I like about
Southfield," and drawings
should represent the
children's feelings on why
they think Southfield is a
special place in which to live,
learn, play or just have fun.
Drawings can focus on
Southfield landmarks,
scenery, parks and other
"Southfield scenes."
Deadline for entries is
Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. For an en-

Murderer
Captured

TelAviv (JTA) — Police on
Monday captured Herzl
Avitan, who had escaped from
an Israeli prison Saturday
afternoon.
A special police unit ap-
prehended Avitan, described
as most dangerous, 40 hours
after he escaped from Beer-
sheba prison, where he is ser-
ving two life sentences for
separate murders. He was
found in Hod Hasharon, near
Tel Aviv, after taking a fami-
ly hostage.
The police also detained for
10 days a prison officer and a
guard on suspicion of having
facilitated his escape.
