N

o grab yer podners
fer square dance shin-
digin' . . . but a good

time had by all . . . as usual
when Michigan Cancer Fon-
dation puts on an affair.
This time, MCF's Circle of
Fellows took over the banquet
area of Palace at Auburn
Hills for music, drinks and
good Machus food galore .. .
Then into the arena as
country-western stars were
appearing in concert for the
general public.
You might have thought
this was the wrong place as
Doug Jacobs and his Red
Garter Band were knocking
out their Dixieland jazz . .
show the group's versatility
they did "Your Cheatin'
Heart" in country-western
fashion . . . as folks signed in
and were handed bandanas to
wear.
Bob Sosnick wore his
around a neck brace . . . Dave
"Mr. Energy" Hermelin, part-
ner with Bob and Bill David-
son in the Palace, showed
another side by singing with
the Red Garter Band . . . and
surprisingly good, too. About
225 people . . . Marty
Kellman, Cis Maesel, Sid
Schwartz with daughter
Doreen Schwartz, Stephanie
and Frank Germack, Mary
and Mike Must, Sydell and
Doug Schubot, Doreen
Hermelin, Suzie Sosnick, Les
Colburn, Constance and Stan
Krandall, Irving Nusbaum,
Marcia and Gene Ap-
plebaum, Hy Dorfman, Rob
Kress, Machus' John Wood,
Suzanne and Bob Zeff,
Marion Tiangale, etc.
Made no difference where
folks sat for the action show
. . Two huge color video
screens and a couple on the
large scoreboard gave them
views from everywhere.
Michigan Cancer Founda-
tion easily ranks among the
leaders . . . not only knowing
how to fight in its tremendous
cause . . . but also in showing
members a really good time
while contributing towards
its very fine efforts.
CONGRATS . . . to Seldon
Barris . . . on his 83rd birth-
day . . . He and wife Birdie
came to Detroit hometown
from Merritt Island, Fla.,
with son Ron entertaining for
40 . . . Congrats also to .. .
Sharon Baseman . . . who
celebrated birthday same day
as Seldon . . . at second party
by Seldon's niece and nephew,
Marcia and Jerry Haber .. .

Birdie and Seldon celebrated
their 55th anniversary in
May.

JUST 25 CENTS . . . for
14-year-old Jeff Lazar's first-
time Backyard Carnival to
raise dough toward the
Muscular Dystrophy pot .. .
It's this Sunday, 12 noon to 4
p.m. at home of his and
parents Sema and Alton
Lazar, 26121 Harding in Oak
Park . . . Sure his friends are
helping . . . and grandma Lil
Benkoff too.
COMMUNITY-ITE
wonders if it means anything
. . . that his best gal wants to
fix him up with someone else
. . . (This true bit would make
a great cartoon.)
GET WELL WISHES .. .
to Beverly Gordon . . . at
Beaumont Hospital . . . to Roy
Rogow . . . recuperating at
home.
SOCIAL SINGLES is new
group of men and women bet-
ween ages of 40-55 at Jewish
Community Center on Maple
. . . For info about it, call
Sharon Stein, 552-9237, or
Leanie Gunsberg, 661-1000,
ext. 347.
CONGRATS . . . to Pauline
Max on her birthday . . . to
Lisa Kamil . . . on her birth-
day . . . to Mendel Gordon .. .
on his birthday.
"I DO" DEPT.. . . Deborah
Stern to Larry Zuckerman of
California, middle-aisling it
this Tuesday at Temple Beth
El . . . She is the daughter of
Elaine Stern.
IS THERE a Michigan
Club in Georgia? . . . Pat
Binder would like to know for
daughter Estelle Binder who
now lives in Smyrna, Ga., as
a Cobb County special educa-
tion teacher.
RECENT MARRIAGE of
Pam Becker and Glenn
Siesser was a three-day affair
for guests . . . Pre-nuptial din-
ner at Norm's Oyster Bar &
Grill, wedding at Temple
Israel and going away brunch
in Algonquin Room of
Radisson Plaza Hotel.

LOOKING BACK on col-
umns of yesteryears .. .
MARCH 15, 1974 .
"Local gent wanted to repay
someone for numerous favors,
borrowed his car one morning
and had it equipped with an
intricate stereo radio plus
tape deck . . . Returning the
auto he pointed to the set and
said, "From me to you. How
do you like it?" . . . The other
fellow swallowed hard, grabb-
ed the local guy's arm and
confessed, 'This is a rented
car.' "
