Israel Silent
About Satellite

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israeli of-
ficials declined to comment
on a report in Time magazine
that Israel is preparing a
missile to launch its own
surveillance satellite in low
earth orbit.
According to Time, the
satellite is designed to spy on
military preparations and
movements in the neighbor-
ing Arab countries.
Time says the "Shavit"
(comet) missile was built by
Israel's leading missile
manufacturer, the Rafael
weapons development
authority, in collaboration
with Israel Aircraft
Industries.
If the report is true, Israel
would become the world's
eighth country known to
possess a rocket strong
enough to put a satellite in
orbit.
An Israeli spy satellite
would make the country in-
dependent of the United
States in obtaining satellite
intelligence.

Tel Aviv 8 (JTA) — Police
are investigating the murder
of 8-year-old Hanan Zagor,
whose body was found by
neighbors Saturday afternoon
near his home in Kiryat
Tivon, southeast of Haifa.
Police said they are pursu-
ing information the murder
might have been carried out
by nationalist Palestinian
Arabs or be a "civilian
criminal act carried out by a
deranged neighbor of the
family."
The boy's body was dis-
covered in a gulley and was
later identified by his step-
brother. Zagor's head ap-
parently had been battered by
a large stone, which was
found nearby along with his
yarmulke.

tain, China, Egypt, Greece
