Do You Know Mitzvah People In Our Midst? "That man deserves the highest honors who does not ask for them, but performs worthy deeds." Meyer King "A truly righteous person — a tzadik — who lives his faith;' is how Rabbi David Nelson described Mr. King in a 1986 Jewish News profile. Are there more Mr. Kings in our midst? From Hadassah Levi of Jerusalem, who cares for 40 children with Down's Syndrome to Uri Lupoliansky, whose Yad Sara lends medical supplies free of charge to thousands of people throughout Israel, Jews have been performing significant acts of charity and kindness with little or no fanfare. And many of those Jews reside in the Detroit area. To honor those Jews in our midst who, through unusual or extraor- dinary acts of personal charity and kindness, touch the lives of Jews and non-Jews in the metropolitan Detroit area, and in the hopes of having their actions inspire others in our community to perform acts of charity and kindness, The Jewish News will publish an annual special section: Mitzvah Heroes In Our Midst. The first issue will ap- pear this fall. We invite you to nominate a person or persons you may know for this special honor. A panel of distinguished judges will select the honorees, whose work will be featured in the special section. Addi- tionally The Jewish News will make a meaningful financial contribu- tion to the charities selected by the honorees, in their names. Please fill out the form below, clip it, and return it with a description of the acts or charity and kindness performed by the nominee. All nominations must be received by Friday, September 16, 1988. "Happy is the man whose deeds are greater than his learning."
