'Products such as machine tools, measuring equipment, specialized metal preparations and hand equip- ment received strong interest. Over $1.5 million in products were sold. Exports of consumer items including televisions, radios, household furniture, textiles, cigarettes and food products increased significantly in 1987. These industries are just a few examples of the export op- portunities unfolding in world markets. Through President Reagan's and Secretary Verity's program, America's manufacturers and businesses will be made aware of these other oppor- tunities for exporting. Through exporting, many American industries can achieve economies of scale, diversify their marketing mix and increase profits. What's more, our economy will con- tinue to expand, creating jobs and prosperity for -American workers. The export trends emerging in the last year are evidence that American companies realize that now is the time to export. It makes good business sense.
