FRIDAY, AUGUST. '26, 1988
669-1441
went around to the main din-
ing room to see what the
whistle was about . . . and out
came marching "The Little
Drummer Boys," ages four to
12, from MacKenzie High
School district . . . Loud as
can be, each dressed in red
and white, they marched in-
to the main dining room to
greet Frank . . . giving a
banging performance and
dancing as they beat on their
drums.
"The Little Drummer
Boys" continued to march
through the second half of the
restaurant during evening
business hours dancing and
beating away . . . and every
now and then stopping the
beat to yell in unison, "Hap-
py Birthday, Frank!"
Then the finale . . . 53
candles on a giant cake .. .
Frank's entire group of
employees and the dining
room customers shared in
singing "Happy Birthday!" to
him.
Each year, Claudia, Frank's
wife, tries to top her creativi-
ty in thinking up something
more odd or extravagant for
his birthday . . . After all,
what can you get a man who
has almost everything? .. .
This one may have topped the
3,000 balloons in the bedroom
and the 300 water balloons in
the jacuzzi, a helicopter to the
show, or 1,000 balloons hand-
delivered by the Lakeview
High varsity cheerleaders .. .
But it may not surpass last
year's birthday . . . That's
when Frank and Claudia
were married in Sicily, Aug.
14, after a courtship of eight
years . . . Many congrats .. .
to Frank Passalacqua . . . on
his birthday.
INTERNATIONAL HIT
and 1988 Pulitzer Prize-
winning comedy, Driving
Miss Daisy, which opens
Music Hall Theater's season,
Sept. 13 through Sept. 18 to
begin its national tour, is bas-
ed on the true-to-life story of
writer Alfred Uhry's Jewish
grandmother and her black
chauffeur . . . it spans their
amusing and often touching
25-year relationship in Atlan-
ta from 1948 to 1973 . . .
Within the context of two
memorable characters (played
by Julie Harris and Brock
Peters) Driving Miss Daisy ex-
plores the delicate subject of
race relations, exploding the
stereotypical perceptions of
the'40s, moving quickly
through the changing '60s to
the reality of the'70s.
THE HELP is all Israeli,
including the chef . . . This
coupled with homemade
Israeli food and decor, makes
the new Eli's King David
Cafe a truly authentic Israeli
restaurant . . . Located on
Griswold between Michigan
and State downtown, it is
open Monday through Satur-
day 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. . . . with
limited seating for 12 to 15 in-
side and about 20 at an out-
side cafe.
SHARING THE stage this
Sunday in Meadow Brook's
final "Summer Solid Gold"
concert of the season at
Oakland Univesity in
Rochester will be Johnny
Rivers, Bobby Vee, Del Shan-
non and Lou Christie . . . The
musical Carousel opens Sept.
6 through Sept. 11.
200 ATTENDED the "Join
Us At Joey's On Jefferson" af-
fair by Variety Club of Detroit
and Young Variety Club . . . It
was prelude to the next even-
ing . . . Joey's On Jefferson's
first anniversary . . . Dancers,
impressionist, continuous
music, dancing and food
galore made for a fine Varie-
ty Club evening.

FROM NORTH Miami
Beach, Fla., where Morrie
and Sylvia Bobroff now live,
he tells of a gent collapsing in
line at the Rascal House deli
. . . ' Call went out for the
emergency medics who reviv-
ed him . . . and looked at each
other as the fellow muttered
his first words, "Did I lose my
place in line?"
LINDA AND BOB Milne,
ragtime pianists supreme,

operating a sawmill for the
past three years . . . Bob plays
