A record number of
Detroiters are expected to
participate this year in mis-
sions sponsored by the Jewish
Welfare Federation and the
United Jewish Appeal. More
than 150 Detroiters will visit
Israel this summer and fall
on Federation missions.
In October, in conjunction
with the UJA's 50th anniver-
sary, 80 Detroiters will join
1,000 American Jews on the
Jubilee Mission to Israel.
This represents the largest
number of Detroiters ever on
this mission.
One of the largest in UJA
history as well, the Jubilee
Mission will include meetings
with Ethiopian immigrants,
visits to Project Renewal
neighborhoods and a
ceremony at the Yad Vashem
Holocaust memorial in
Jerusalem. The Israel mis-
sion will be preceded by op-

Irving Laker Will Chair
ARMDI Annual Dinner

Irving Laker has been nam-
ed chairman of the annual
testimonial dinner of the
Michigan region of the
American Red Magen David
for Israel (ARMDI). The event
will be held 6 p.m Oct. 6 at
Adat Shalom Synagogue in
honor of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
S. Dorfman.
Irving Laker is vice-
president of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek and co-
chairman of the Automotive
and Industrial Section Cam-
paign of Jewish Welfare
Federation. Among the many
organizations with which he
is affiliated are Labor Zionist
Organization of America, Na-
tional Zionist Organization of
America, B'nai B'rith Foun-
dation, Jewish Vocational
Service, Hebrew Benevolent
Society, Sinai Hospital, Bar-
Ilan University, Jewish Home
for Aged, Chabad Lubavitch
Organization, Jewish Na-
tional Fund and State of
Israel Bonds. He has served
on the boards of the National
Federation of Jewish Men's
Clubs and the Holocaust
Memorial Center.
The dinner honoring the
Dorfmans will aid the new
MDA Blood Services Center
at Ramat Gan and support
MDA.
