I NEWS I Wanted To Be A Jap' Miami (JTA) — "I'm fulfill- ing my lifelong dream, and I don't understand why my own are trying to take it away from me," clothing designer Babs Federman told the Miami Jewish Tribune last month. "I grew up very poor in the Bronx, and always looked at the women with the wealthy men on their arms, all dressed to kill. They were called JAPs, and that's what I wanted to be." But one woman's ambition can be a community's woe, as Federman found out soon after ads began running in a local paper offering a "JAP" (Jewish American Princess) discount on her line of clothing at the PAJ (JAP spelled backwards) boutique in Coral Springs. The response was im- mediate — and negative. Vet. Seeks Medal Of Honor Washington (JTA) — The Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America received the backing of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in its effort to have the Congres- sional Medal of Honor bestowed on Korean War hero and Holocaust survivor Tibor Rubin. In 1950, Rubin was to be nominated by one of his com- manders for the medal for battlefield bravery, but all records were lost when his unit was overrun by the Chinese in Unsan, North Corea. Rubin, 59, said that he hopes President Reagan or his successor will award him the medal. <
