ed. Our JCCouncil and
Federation should have taken
a booth, distributing
literature of our involvement
in the crucial areas as Jews.
Yet when I spoke to the
Detroit executives of the Ur-
ban League, they expressed in
glowing terms of a most cor-
dial relationship with the
Jewish community leader-
ship. Let's make an involve-
ment with the black com-
munity, a solid relationship
and not only with the
leadership.

Make Up Minds
On Black People
The Jewish people should
make up their minds on the
black issue. Iry Rubin told
Steve Cokely, the aide to ac-
ting Mayor Eugene Sawyer of
Chicago, that blacks and Jews
have nothing in common. He
also said that we blacks are
jealous of you Jews because of
your success in life and our
apparent failure .. .
Staff writer Elizabeth
Kaplan, reported an inter-
view with a young black man
named Frank Jones, in which
he said that Jews and blacks
have the same agenda. In my
66 years I have never met a
Jew that cared a damn about
blacks that were not his
housekeeper or lover .. .
You Jews are fast making
enemies of the only people in
the world who could be your
true friends.
Down in West Virginia
when I was a little boy, we
sang a little poem: "Acka
backa soda cracker, acka back
boo. If your daddy chewed
tobacco he is a dirty Jew."
That was an awful thing for
a child to say. But who cared?

Hussein's Moves
Draw Responses
In the 1967 Six-Day War,
King Hussein gambled his
West Bank in his invasion of
Israel and lost. Now some 21
years later, for a variety of
reasons, Hussein has decided
to sever political and finan-
cial ties with his lost West
Bank. This decision gives the
territories a new status. They
are Israel's for the taking.
Israel must now decide
what is to become of the re-
maining fruit of the Six-Day
War. The fantasy and delu-
sion of mixed Israeli-
Jordanian sovereignty, or a
return of Judea-Samaria to
Arab control has evaporated.
The options are limited. One
is a "Palestinian" state whose
existence would validate
Arab claims and power

against Israel. Two is the in-
corporation of the territories
into Israel proper. Three is to
continue the present stale-
mate of Jewish settlers and
soldiers being stoned and
firebombed as occupiers.
Israel needs peace. But
there will be no peace if Israel
continues to feed the revan-
chist illusions of the Arabs
that Israel can be reduced in
size by the salami tactics of
insurrection or diplomacy. In-
corporation of Judea-Samaria
will once and for all, end the
Arab dream. And the intifada
will have been made mean-
ingless .. .
There will only be peace
when Jews take what is
rightfully theirs leaving no
question in the mind of the
Arabs, be they identified as
"Palestinians" or not, that
the game is over, that Israel
will surrender nothing and
the Arab efforts are for
naught.

King Hussein's
Revisionism

King Hussein declares:
"Jordan is not Palestine .. .
The independent Palestian
state will be established on
the occupied Palestinian land
after its liberation. God will-
ing."
Nonsense! Jordan's King
knows full well that his own
country is part of Palestine. In
his memoirs, Hussein points
out that his country "being to
the east of the river Jordan,
formed, in a sense, the in-
terior of Palestine" and that
Palestine had been "divided
arbitrarily by politicians in
the early 1920s."
The politician responsible
was Winston Churchill, then
head of the British Colonial
Office. Hashemite Abdullah,
grandfather of Hussein,
brought in a force of 1,200
from his home in Hejaz, Saudi
Arabia, to attack the French
forces in Syria. Britain feared
a conflict with the French, so
they offered Abdullah a piece
of Palestine (77 percent) if he
would call off his attack. In a
letter to the French on March
31, 1921, Churchill said it
was "an informal and tem-
porary" agreement for "only
six months." That's how Jor-
dan, the independent Arab
Palestinian state, started .. .
It is time to put an end to
the lie of "homeless, stateless
Palestinians" and honestly
face the fact that Jordan is
the independent Arab Palesti-
nian homeland demanded.
