Sturmans Will Host Hadassah Dinner Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah's major gifts Silver Circle Dinner will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the home of Dr. Stephen and Elaine Sturman. The event will kick off the combined Hadassah Medical Organization/Youth Aliyah fundraising drive. Youth Aliyah helps in the absorp- tion and education of im- migrant children from around the world and assists youths from disadvantaged areas of Israel. Elaine Sturman is a past president of the Tikvah group of Hadassah and is program co-vice president for Greater Detroit Chapter. Dr. Stephen Sturman is a Hadassah associate. Marlene Post, national organization chairman, will speak at the dinner. Elaine and Stephen Sturman Working with the Sturmans in planning the evening are Nancy Glass, Barbara Ben, Beverly Fine and Myrna Salzman. Music Study Club Will Honor Scherr Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit will honor Sylvia Scherr on her golden anniversary of service to the club at The Birming- ham Temple 12:15 p.m. Sept. 27. From 1938, when she audi- tioned for membership, to the present, Scherr has been in- volved in many facets of MSC activity. Now serving as budget chairman, she is past president of MSC and sang with the choral group. Scherr also participates in the audi- tion and selection of scholar- ship recipients and concert performers for the MSC An- nual Artist Concert at Or- chestra Hall. Scherr was an 11 year old piano student at the Ganapol Music School (where she later taught) when Mrs. Ganapol Sylvia Scherr recommended her to Mrs. Edsel Ford, her scholarship patron until graduation. Scherr borrowed money to go to New York for coaching lessons from Edwin Hughes during the Depression.
