Katkowski polished off his strong playoff performance with three hits. Jason Novetsky, of Oak Park, pitched the final two in- nings to pick up the save in the finale. Novetsky also earned a save in the third game of the state tourney, against Southgate. Novetsky started game one against Saginaw but did not get a decision. Jason Markowitz, Katkowky's Southfield- Lathrup teammate last season, started game three but did not get the decision. Katkowsky is hitting over .300 this season, according to coach Annis Joseph. "He's had an excellent season," says Joseph. "Defensively he plays very well." Katkowsky plays first base. Novetsky was 7-0 in the regular season, 8-0 overall. "If he gets behind a batter he has to come in with a fastball and that's when he gets in trou- ble," explains Joseph. "But then he starts to work himself out of it. He does all right. He doesn't get eight wins without knowing what he's doing." Markowitz, 4-1, is a spot starter and occasionally plays outfield. "He's got a good at- titude," says Joseph, "he roots for the team. . . He's just a good kid. I like him." If you have sent letters of invitation to your Jewish relatives in the Soviet Union please contact us. The Perlsteins, survivors of the Nazi Holocaust, are actively involved on behalf of numerous charitable and educational causes locally and in Israel. They are af- filiated with various organizations in Detroit and Hallandale, Florida. Several months ago Perlsteins received the State of Israel Bonds New Life Award and were honored by the Hallandale Jewish Community. Presenting the Pikuach Nefesh Award ("Saving Lives") to the Perlsteins Dr. John J. Mames, Chairman of Michigan Region and Dr. Morris Starkman, Chairman of the Medical-Dental Council, American Red Magen David for Israel remarked: "Your magnanimous generosity will assist MDA in the far-reaching humanitarian and lifesav- ing programs. MDA is grateful for your magnificent Gift of Life." Accepting the award Mr. Perlstein responded: "As survivors and as American Jews we feel deeply gratified and proud to make this gift which once again expresses our love and concern for our valiant brethren in Israel.
