trast, confusion marked much
of Toronto's 1986 effort. With
Chicago apparently poised for
a successful games, the com-
mittee did not want the event
to slip again in 1990. "They
want to guarantee that
they're going to get a very
succesful games," says Oliff.
"We have a proven track
record. We've done the games,
we did it very succesfully.
We've got a tremendous staff,
we've got a tremendous
volunteer corps."
Approximately 900 athletes
arrived in Detroit in 1984. At
least twice that many are ex-
pected in 1990. Oliff has no
doubt that Detroit can handle
that increase. "I know we can
do it. I'm very confident."
The decision must be of-
ficially approved by the
Center's board of directors in
its September meeting. But
key officers have already
given their approval, so accep-
tance should be a formality.

"The Maccabi Youth Games
have evolved into one of the
most exciting and far-
reaching events in the lives of
American and Canadian
Jewish teenagers," Greenberg
says. "They attract and in-
volve thousands upon
thousands of people, not only
the paricipating athletes but
their families and com-
munities, and the host corn-
munities as well."
JWB is a co-sponsor of the

David Katkowsky stroked
10 hits in five games as his
Ferndale American Legion
baseball team swept all five
contests to win the state
Legion championship in
Saginaw last weekend.
The team is now in South
Bend, Ind., competing in the
national regional tourna-
ment. The winner of the
eight-team regional, which

necticut next week.
Ferndale, which entered the
