Local Columnist

I

t was a very hot Saturday
afternoon . . . as he sat in
his office waiting for the
potential leasee who never
showed up.
Sure it was a gag, but to
keep developer-builder Morris
Margulies away from home
. . . and when he did decide to
call it quits on "waiting," wife
Robin had everything under
control.
No, Morris didn't come to
the black-tie optional sur-
prise 50th in his shorts . . . A
chauffeur arrived at the office
with Morris' white jacket tux-
edo and escorted him home in
a Rolls Royce limousine.
Almost 150 showed up to
give Morris a happy 50th .. .
They saw a video of him as a
child, teenager and man .. .
plus friends wishing him hap-
py birthday . . . and drank
and ate merrily while being
awed at the 15,000-square-
foot home on Walnut Lake
Road.
But as the late Al Jolson
would have told them, "You
ain't seen nothin' yet!" .. .
Downstairs was the big sur-
prise for Morris . . . The Com-
fort Club of his, Robin, Adam
and family, patterned a bit
like New York's Stork Club,
had it's first party . . . honor-
ing Morris' 50th surprise
birthday.
When he left home that day
it hadn't been completed yet,
but by 7 p.m. the downstairs
night club was ready for ac-
tion . . . as electricians put
the finishing touches on a
beautiful setting many pro-
fessional niteries would envy.
Seating is for almost 100,
not including the outside
patio area . . . A large dance
floor had folks terpsi'ing to
the good sounds of Pam Mar-
tin and Smiling Faces .. .
Food was in abundance,
catered by Steve Romanik .. .
Go upstairs to the Johns and
Jills? No way . . . This night
club was a separate operation
from the rest of the house .. .
having its own men's and
ladies' rest rooms.
The surprise party had
been planned since last sum-
mer by Robin and good friend
Sue Knight, whose hubby,
Leo Knight, made sure there
was plenty of video footage
and stills of this festive
occasion.

Not much better to top off
the evening than having per-
sonable young men from-
Touch of Class Valet to bring

your car without screeching
the tires.
If the gal who was going to
lease a spot in one of Morris'
malls (Crosswinds, La
Mirage, Market Street, etc.)
did show up, she was at the
party . . . If not, Morris would
like her to know that he still
has the vacancy available.
CONGRATS to Phil and
Anna Slomovitz . . . on their
63rd anniversary.
YOU PAY 99 cents . . . and
Jax Kar Wash puts in a pen-
ny to make it an even buck
. . . plus washing your car .. .
and all the proceeds go to the
March of Dimes in helping
fight birth defects.
It's this Tuesday (Aug. 16)
at any of the nine Jax Kar
Wash spots . . . along with

A white tuxedo, a
Rolls Royce and a
new party room
make for a happy
50th.

free bottles of New York
Seltzer, special Arby's
coupons, popcorn, etc.
Sure there'll be lines, but
it's not often you get a 99 cent
car wash . . . and besides the
nice clean auto, how about
the wonderful feeling that
perhaps you brought a
lifetime of happiness to some
child not born yet?
is
