Sununu's Stance
Causes Concern

I am deeply concerned
about George Bush's commit-
ment to Israel. Last week, the
vice president announced the
names of those he is consider-
ing for his running mate.
Among those asked to fill out
a financial disclosure form
was the governor of New
Hampshire, John Sununu.
Gov. Sununu is the only
Governor in the United
States who has refused to de-
nounce the United Nations
Resolution that called
Zionism racist. I wish George
Bush had stated he disagreed
with Gov. Sununu's position.
Unfortunately he did not.
This should raise doubts for
every American who believes
the United States' support of
Israel is important.

One must wonder whether
this production is an attempt
to make money or whether it
is an attempt to attack Chris-
tianity and its principles by
attacking its divine founder.
Perhaps both, because under-
mining Christian teachings
will open the door for au-
diences to see even more and
more perversion, more por-

as entertainment by
Hollywood .. .
The Jewish News feared
that the Christian reaction to
this abominable film would
bring out a wave of anti-
Semitism (July 29). Perhaps
this is true to some extent as
some of the Hollywood MCA
Corporation executives who
insist on releasing the film
happen to be Jewish. I doubt
that they are principled or
religious Jews and in no way
should we condemn others for
the sins of a few.
They should be denounced
by the Jewish community and
the Christian communities
together in fellowship and
with mutual respect for each
others' faiths. Such joint ac-
tion would undermine any
bigots who try to take advan-
tage of this to attack our
Jewish brothers. As a
Fullbright fellow at Hebrew
University in Jerusalem
some years ago, I learned

Bonn (JTA) — Mohammed
Hamadei, the Lebanese
standing trial in Frankfurt
for the hijacking of a TWA
airliner in 1985, admitted
Tuesday that he participated
in that hijacking to Beirut.
But he denied any complicity
in the murder of Robert
Stethem, the American Navy
diver who was brutally killed
on board and whose body was
dumped on the airport
tarmac.
Hamadei blamed Israel's
"criminal acts" for the deci-
sion to enact the crime.
Hamadei's dramatic confes-
sion came as a surprise to the
West German judges, who°are
hearing the case in Frank-
furt's top-security prison
where he is being held.
The chairman of the court
said, "This could be a turning
point in this trial."
Hamadei is being tried in
juvenile court because of
uncertainty about his actual
age at the time of the crime.
Hamadei declined to give

the names of other par-
ticipants in the hijacking, nor
would he say who organized
the crime. Trying to justify
his action, Hamadei said that
his aim was to free Lebanese
people allegedly tortured in
Israeli prisons.
"If what I did was a crime,"
he said, "this was nothing but
a response to continuous
criminal acts by Israel."
Hamadei said he and his
group decided to hit the
United States because it was
Israel's main supporter.
