Tel Aviv (JTA) — Four
students from the Gur
Yeshivah in Jerusalem
drowned Sunday during an
outing in the Golan Heights.
The students were fully
clothed — with jackets, boots
and long underwear — when
they plunged into a pool near
the Banot Ya'acov Bridge over
the Jordan River.
Three other students were
pulled out of the water and
rushed to the hospital in Saf-
ed. They were reported to be
in serious condition. None of
the several dozen 18- and
19-year-old students on the
outing could swim.

Jerusalem (JTA) — Prime
Minister Yitzhak Shamir met
Monday with members of a
zealous Jewish nationalist
group and told them, "East
Jerusalem should be massive-
ly settled with Jews."
Shamir told members of the
Temple Mount Faithful that
he respected the group's
struggle and that "there is no
disputing the need to
preserve Jerusalem's safety
and welfare, and its status as
Israel's capital!'
The premier added that ac-
tions to prevent attacks
against Jews in the Old City
must be stepped up, and that
Jewish settlement of heavily
Arab east Jerusalem should
be "part of our settlement
policy in this country."

Bonn (JTA) — Four teenage
neo-Nazis, convicted of
assault and battery in racial
incidents, were given short
prison sentences of nine to 12
months by an East German
court in Koenigs-Wuster-
hausen, near East Berlin.
Last week's sentencing was
the second time in less than
a month that an East Ger-
man court imposed prison
sentences on neo-Nazis, con-
sidered strong public admis-
sion by authorities that right-
wing extremism is gaining
ground in the Communist
state.
In another development,
the neo-Nazi National
Democratic Party in West
Germany filed an application
with the Allied Powers in
West Berlin for permission to
participate in the city's
municipal elections in
January.
