When we ask you to please recognize the signs of cystic fibrosis and other lung- damaging diseases, we're not trying to alarm you. Look at it this way. If your child does NOT have C F or another serious lung-damaging disease, he has nothing to lose by checking with a doctor, or taking a simple diagnostic test. If your child DOES have C F, or another condition that could damage his lungs, he has a lot to lose by not having the chance for early diagnosis and prompt effective medical care. So, when you look at it like that... we hope you'll look at this and learn the following: SIGNS OF LUNG-DAMAGING DISEASE 1. Recurrent wheezing 2. Persistent coughing/excessive mucus 3. All he found was one Jewish marker embedded in a tree!' As the members of the Mezeritcher group grew older, they concerned themselves less with raising money for Israel and more with socializing. "Eventually, we decided we should no longer be a fund- raising group because we were all so active elsewhere and we wanted some time for relaxation. For me, as a widow, it's wonderful because I have somewhere to go every other Saturday. And it's still an extended family. We're close in times of sadness and in times of gaiety!" This year's activities were based on the theme "The United States as a Melting Pot!' Each month, one of the two. meetings held at the Zionist Cultural Center in Southfield is devoted to one of the nation's ethnic groups. Members don ethnic garb; the hall is decorated to reflect ethnic traditions, and members present a skit. Other events each year in- clude group social outings, treasure hunts and long weekends out-of-town. This past Memorial Day weekend, the Mizritchies spent five days at Stratford and Muskoka Lake, Ontario. Members also enjoy square dancing, Vegas nights, book reviews, road rallies and guest speakers. Parties are also held around secular holidays, such as Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve and Bea Fealk: Having fun and memories. Mother's and Father's Day, as well as the Jewish holidays. Coming up: a 50th anniver- sary president's ball Sept. 17 honoring the surviving past presidents, many of whom will be coming in from out of town. But unlike in 1938, there is no active junior group to carry on. "Oh, from 1972 until 1977 there was a junior Mezerit- cher group but they disband- ed," Mrs. Fealk says. "lbday's young people are very busy and they won't give the time to it. I have a hunch that none of the volunteer groups are going to be around!' And what does the future hold for the Mezeritcher group? "I predict this group will last another 10 years," Mrs. Fealk says. "I may be gone but there will be other younger members to carry on. But after that, I really don't know!' IIII I LOCAL NEWS I Hadassah, Sinai Join Forces For Health Day .
