Telethon Aids
Bar-Ilan U.

Joyce Borovoy, Nora
Lessman and Sherman
Shapiro will chair this year's
telethons sessions on behalf
of Bar-Ilan University.
The telethons will be held
Aug. 15 and 22 in conjunction
with the annual Bar-Ilan din-
ner. The honorees for this
year's banquet will be Bar-
bara and Irving Nusbaum "in
recognition of their life-long
affiliation with the universi-
ty"
The dinner also will mark
the inauguration of theBar-
bara and Irving Nusbaum
Post-Doctorate Medical
Research Fund, an endow-
ment whose annual income
will allow Bar-Ilan to
strengthen its cadre of post-
doctorate fellows.
Lessman and Shapiro have
chaired the university'e
telethon efforts over the past
two years. In addition,
Lessman is vice president of
the American Women for Bar-
Ilan, Detroit Chapter, and is
a past donor chairman.
Shapiro is a past synagogue
liaison chairman for Bar-
Ilan's Detroit efforts. Borovoy
is on the board of the
AmericanWomen for Bar-Ilan
and was a participant in this
year's Midwest mission to
campus.

Helman Fund
At Bar-Ilan

Peter and Shirlye Helman
have established an endowed
scholarship fund at Bar-Ilan
University.
The principal -from the
scholarship fund will be
established in perpetuity, and
the income each year will be
used to fund a Helman
Scholar at Bar-Ilan. The
university actively recruits
students of Sephardic
background, those whose
academic credentials are
satisfactory but whose finan-
cial situation would not nor-
mally allow them to attend.
This fund will benefit
such students.

Urgent Need
For Blood

The American Red Cross,
Southeastern Michigan
Regional Blood Services
reports there is an urgent
need for blood donations.
Community organizations
and businesses are urged to
schedule on-site blood drives
for the balance of this sum-
mer. Call Red Cross,
494-2790, to schedule a blood
drive.
