challenged
Faber
Drissman, asking him to ex-
plain how to carry out the ex-
pulsion of Arabs from Israel
and the territories. Audience
members echoed Faber's call.
"The issue is not how, ex-
cept that it has to be done,"
Drissman answered. He then
paraphrased Zionist founding
father Theodor Herzl: "If you
will it, it will be done."
"I want peace," he said.
"But the price of survival
might mean the absence of
peace."
The two-hour-long debate
aroused passions but left
many dissatisfied.
Albert Levenson complain-
ed the panel favored the right

wing and lacked a Labor Par-
ty position. "It wasn't very
enlightening," he added.
called
Bob
Molner
Drissman's presentation
"simplistic and fascistic."
Alex Zuckman left the
discussion in a pessimistic
mood. "We're bound for
suicide. Unless you can
achieve peace, we're going to
lose Israel," he said.
Allen Cohen was angry
that concern was expressed
for the Palestinians.
"Everybody's saying, 'What
should we do with the Arabs?'
Who cares what the Arabs
think. We've got a country.
You don't give in."

Deir Yassin

Continued from Page 7
It is true that the fears rais-

ed by what happened in Deir
Yassin played a role in the ex-
odus of the Palestinians. But
thousands had left long before
and thousands more would

not leave until months later.
What is more significant is
that there was not a single
report of Jews fleeing as a
result of Arab massacres.
