BACKGROUND: Mollie Blustein Ingber was born on Rivard Street in Detroit over her maternal grandfather's store, DeRoven's Sugar and Feed. She grew up on the northwest side and attended Roosevelt, Durfee and Central High School. When she was 16 years old, she met Abe Ingber. These high school sweethearts married in 1942. As newlyweds, they moved to Ann Arbor because Abe's father, Jacob, started a business there in the hopes that his children would receive a better education near the university. As a young bride, Mollie began to cook. She loved cooking and was inspired by her mother-in-law, who was an excellent baker. While raising three children, she became very active in volunteer work in thd Ann Arbor area. In Hadassah, she was the membership chairman and organized many charity bake sales for the Jewish community. "I baked enough for 10 people, and I loved it." She was also involved with her synagogue, Beth Israel Congregation. In later years, Mollie began giving Jewish cookery lessons. Most of her pupils were professors' wives. She decided to write a cookbook and donate the profits to the new building of Beth Israel, and to cancer and heart funds. "Also, I wanted to leave something of myself to my grandchildren." Her self-published cookbook, "Why Don't You Write a Cook?" is no longer in print. "I've had four printings of my book and have been asked to reprint my book again, but I'm interested in other things now." Her project for the last six years has been baking for Zingerman's. "I really enjoy it." Her delicious desserts — carrot cakes, cheesecakes and mousse cakes — are well-known. People on the streets of Ann Arbor refer to her as the "Cookie Lady." Her cookie specialties are a ginger molasses snap and oatmeal-chocolate-chip-raisin-nut. When she is not baking for Zingerman's, she gives private baking lessons for young brides. Mollie Ingber is very content as mother, wife and baker. She is proud of the fact that all her children married Jews. "I've been blessed. I have no problem family." TIDBITS DOE DAY Chairman CELL SINGER and co-chair DEBBIE SILBER recently planned "Doe Day: A Day at the Spa" for Tam O'Shanter's women members. The day started perfectly for SANDY PANUSH and KAREN LEVITZ, who sent their kids to camp and then hit golf balls. After a group walk, tennis, aerobics and many other fitness activities, the women chose a .1
