FRIDAY, JULY 22, 1988
,
eople don't need
crutches, canes or
wheelchairs to be con-
sidered handicapped . . .
Looking at many, one could
never tell anything was
wrong . . . Wigs and makeup
do wonders, too.
How about folks with crip-
pling arthritis, heart condi-
tions, etc? . . . Many readers
who have handicapped park-
ing stickers are among these
folks . . . So when you see a
seemingly healthy person get
out of his or her car after
parking in a handicapped
parking spot, don't jump to
conclusions . . . They'd much
rather park where you and I
put our autos . . . and be able
to walk with good health.
THANKS TO . . . Toby
Hyman . . . manager of the
opening-in-August Elaine B's
for full-figured gals . . . at
Sugar Tree, Orchard Lake
Road north of Maple . . . She
claims responsibility, in part,
for some of the rains that
finally came last week .. .
Morning of the "great day,"
rIbby and Hubby Michael had
their cars washed . . . and
bought a bar-b-q grill . . . No
witchdoctor dance needed .. .
Toby and Michael to the
rescue.
GET WELL wishes . . . to
Edward Grad . . . at Pro-
vidence Hospital.
JOEY ABRIM, 3-year-old
son of Ilene and Marty
Abrim, wondered why he
recently ate a chicken pot pie
. . . Seems that his friend,
41/2-year-old Joshua Gottlieb,
son of Lisa and Stephen Got-
tlieb, had come down with the
chicken pox . . . and Joey
couldn't play with him .. .
"He shouldn't have eaten a
chicken pox pie either," said
Joey.
CONGRATS . . . to Jeri
Poma . . . on her birthday .. .
to Simone Viatle . . . on his
birthday.
GET WELL wishes . . . to
Anne Brent . . . recuperating
at home after her Sinai
Hospital surgical stay.
LAST ONE was four years
ago . . . a big weekend at
Sheraton Oaks in Novi .. .
This year, Northern and Cen-
tral High alumni of 1938 and
before are planing their 51st
reunion . . . It's being organiz-
ed by George Taxe, Arnold
Michlin, Molly Beck and Bet-
ty and Bill Litt . . . Volunteers
are needed to help reach ex-
grads around the country .. .
Call Arnold at 626-1570.
YES, THAT was Dr.
Herbert Bloom in his
bathrobe middle of the street
front of the home where he
and wife Judge Alice Gilbert
live . . . Herb didn't have time
to change his clothes, scurry-
ing to help, if needed, in a
motor accident . . . He's run-
ning for township trustee .. .
but not in a bathrobe.
30-YEAR REUNION by
1958 grads of Cass Tech High
is slated for Oct. 8 at Rooster-
tail on Jefferson . . . For more
info, call Sheldon Adelman,
548-5384, or Kathy Quail,
939-4935.
BILL MAZER didn't have
the wrong wedding date .. .
just because he wore a tuxedo
in 96-degree heat at Colony
Park Clubhouse . . . Bill and
wife Debbie were at a wed-
ding . . . and came to
celebrate the engagement
shindig of Rebecca Goldman
and Fred Diamond, whose
middle-aisle date is July 2 of
next year at Congregation
Beth Achim.
THE DATE is definitely
July 30 . . . that's a week from
tomorrow . . . for second
sports extravaganza of
Sparky Anderson's Sports
Memorabilia Auction . . . at
Southfield Civic Center .. .
off Evergreen and Civic
Center Drive.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m.,
with the auction set for
11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donation of $10 at door will
be used as a raffle ticket for
prizes . . . Children under 12
are free with a paying adult.
It's to benefit CATCH (Car-
ing Athletes Team for
Chidren's and Henry Ford
Hospitals) . . . Autographed
jerseys, autographed
baseballs, basketballs, hockey
sticks, autographed caps and
bats, etc. . . . plus a round of
golf with Sparky, dinner with
a Tiger, Jacques Demers, a
night in one of three broad-
cast booths at Tiger Stadium,
and so much more.
For other info, call Phyllis
and Bob Pilcowitz, 356-3579
. . . Sounds like a real bonan-
za of fun for sports buffs .. .
while helping a very worthy
cause.
SOMETHING DIF-
FERENT Dept. . . . Gals see-
ing how they look in different
hair-dos before having it done
. . . This is the gig at Farrell
Reis Hairdresser in Birm-
ingham, with its new image
computer salon system . . .
The lassies can actually now
see themselves in various
hair styles, long or short, and
colors before a permanent
change.
