Marvin H. Goldman and David S. Mondry will head a council of former Campaign chairmen. The two men shared the Campaign chair- manship in 1981. The pace-setting "Fisher Meeting" will take place ear- ly this fall for contributors of $100,000 and their adult children. In addition, con- tributors of $25,000 will at- tend a meeting with Henry Kissinger on Sept. 27. A $10,000 Section Presi- dent's Club event with special guest Steve Allen will be held Nov. 3 at the Palace Arena in Auburn Hills. This year's major gifts leaders are David B. Hermelin, chairman; Graham A. Orley, Joseph H. Orley, Spencer M. Partrich, co-chairmen; Norman A. Pap- pas, $25,000 committee; Lawrence S. Jackier, $10,000 committee; and Mark R. Hauser and Michael W. Mad- din, $5,000 committee. Hermelin was co-general chairman of last year's Campaign. 'Ib enhance outreach and education for contributors and volunteers, a worker training rally will be held Oct. 30 at Hillel Day School. James M. August and Susan Citrin are chairmen. A new gifts effort will be mounted under the chair- manship of Linda Lee and Robert Slatkin. One of the goals of the 1988-1989 Campaign is to secure as many pledges as possible before Jewish Welfare Federation planning divisions begin to study com- munity needs requiring fun- ding. For that reason, Super Sunday will take place earlier than ever: Dec. 11. Edie Mit- tenthal and Howard J. Tapper will chair the event, which contacts several thousand Detroiters by telephone. Project Renewal, the effort to improve the lives of the citizens of Yavneh, Detroit's new sister city in Israel, will be chaired locally by Lawrence Jackier. A three- year plan seeks to raise $2,250,000 for Yavneh. Others who will chair various Campaign functions are Janet Levine, agency campaign; Dr. Richard Krugel, adviser to divisions; Irwin M. Alterman and Dr. Mark Diem, telethons; Stuart E. Hertzberg, collection review; Robert H. Naftaly and Morris Rochlin, cash collec- tion; and James A. Colman and Lauren Liss, Walk for Israel. The dinner will also mark the inaugura- tion of the Barbara and Irv- ing Nusbaum Post-Doctorate Medical Research Fund at Bar-Ilan. It was in 1952 at the Outer Drive home of Irving's late parents, Laura and Abraham, that the first monies were raised for the establishment of Bar-Ilan three years later. Barbara and Irving Nusbaum have continued this family involvement. Irv- ing served as the university's Detroit general chairman, along with David Hermelin, in 1976-78. Since then he has continued as an active worker and as a member of the university's American Board of Overseers, as well as serv- ing on the Executive Commit- The Nusbaums tee of the university's Detroit Friends. Barbara is a board member of the American Women for Bar-Ilan, Detroit Chapter. The Nusbaum Fund will be dedicated to the development of post-doctorate fellows. The Nusbaum Fund will create a perpetual source of funding for these students/ researchers.
