New York — In an effort to
help students understand the
complexities of the Middle
East conflict, a teacher's
guide to the Arab-Israeli
situation has just been issued
by the Coalition for the Ad-
vancement of Jewish Educa-
tion (CAJE).
Titled "Through the Eyes of
Children: The Arab-Israeli
Crisis," it is based on the true
story of two letters written by
two young boys, one a 13-year-
old Israeli Jew named Lior,
the other a 12-year-old
Palestinian named Salam.
Their exchange of views ap-
peared originally in An-
Nahar, a pro-Jordanian, east
Jerusalem newspaper, and
was reported in the
Jerusalem Post.
Dutch Won't Sell
Subs To Israel
Amsterdam (JTA) — The
Dutch government refused to
grant export licenses for two
submarines Israel wants to
order from the RMD Ship-
yards in Rotterdam. A
Foreign Ministry spokesman
said last week that the reason
is Israel is considered a coun-
try at war and The Nether-
lands, in principle, denies
military equipment to coun-
tries at war.
In December 1986, the
government approved export
licenses for submarines to be
built at the same shipyard for
Saudi Arabia, although the
Saudis had not placed their
orders.
