the facts is symptomatic of Dr.
Bolkosky's whole tendentious
analysis of Pope Pius' actions.
For example, he dismisses the
eloquent testimony of many
Jewish leaders such as Golda
Meir as contrary to the facts.
lb fully or even adequately
explore the issue would go
beyond the scope of a letter.
But I would encourage Dr.
Bolkosky, as well as those ge-
nuinely interested in fairly
judging the facts and merits
of the case, to read "Three
Popes and The Jews," by
Israeli scholar Pinchas
Lapide, and "A Question of
Judgment: Pius XII and the
Jews," by Joseph Lichten,
once a high official with the
Anti-Defamation League.
Last, I commend all those
who work diligently and con-
scientiously to ensure that
the 6-million Jews and the
millions of others who died at
Hitler's hands are never
forgotten.
I would caution them,
however, in their zeal to con-
demn the ultimate in the sin
of anti-Semitism, that they
avoid falling into the trap of
anti-Cahtholicism, which has
been described as "the anti-
Semitism of the intellec-
tuals!'
