" 'Like Father, Like Son' — I have to admit that the au- dience at the theater seemed to enjoy this movie. I detested it. It made me ill. Having my fingernails pulled off slowly would have been time better spent. You know a movie is bad when you start noticing the stains on the screen and trying to imagine what animal they look like. Rent at your own risk. Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron star. Rating: 0. " 'Hello Again' — Shelley Long falls down and spills soup on herself over and over again. I haven't laughed this hard since I had a tooth pull- ed. There's nothing quite as bad as a boring comedy and this is about as boring as they come. This reincarnation comedy is also the worst film of 1987. Death where is thy sting? Rating: 1/2. " 'Fatal Attraction' — A thriller that has more to do with the AIDS scare than the adultery scare. This was one of the biggest hits of 1987 and it's easy to understand why. It's a great audience movie which should not be confused with a great movie. The characters are too one- dimensional to be believeable and the ending is right out of `Friday the 13th Part 4! By the way, the original ending was deemed too tame by preview audiences so the director reshot the new en- ding some seven months after the film was completed. Rating: 21/2!' Sprinkle with macarons and nutmeg. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes." "LADY DAY at Emerson's Bar & Grill," the off- Broadway musical hit by Lanie Robertson being per- formed by Attic Theatre, is a story of Billie Holiday . . . The one-woman show is played by local singer and actress Miche Braden, with Lavinia Moyer, Attic artistic director, who directed last season's hit, "Ma Rainey's BLack Bot- tom," again directing. Set in a seedy bar in Philadelphia near the end of her career, "Lady Day" por- trays the great jazz singer in declining health, but still hanging on to her magic .. . Phys, ically run down from a heroin habit and her frequent stays in jail, Holiday seems finally overwhelmed by her lifetime as a black woman in a racist world and the long journey from her deprived beginnings to international stardom. She would die of cir- rhosis of the liver four months later. "Lady Day," which contains strong language and is recom- mended for mature au- diences, is performed Wednesdays through Sundays. Attic Theatre is Detroit's leading resident, not-for- profit theater company . Founded in 1975, it provides very good professional theatrical productions . . . and serves the community through education and outreach programs for students, senior citizens and the deaf and hearing impaired.
